Dennis Township

Environmental Commission

Mission Statement
The Dennis Township Environmental Commission DTEC represents the public and its long-term interests as local environmental advocates.  Commission Members work towards these goals by: advising the township council and the planning and zoning boards about environmental impacts of proposals for development; advocating for open-space preservation; keeping residents informed on environmental matters and ways to help protect the environment; promoting environmental education; and working with neighboring commissions and other organizations to meet these goals.  The ANJEC website has a good explanation of the role of Environmental Commissions in New Jersey

Whats New
  •  Environmentally Friendly Lawn Care - Caring for your lawn in an environmentally sensible way can have a bigger impact than you might think. Your lawn is only a small piece of land, but all the lawns across the country cover a lot of ground. That means you and your lawn care activities, along with everyone else's, can make a difference to the environment. And that's why taking care of the environment begins in our own backyards.
  • Garden for cleaner water - Rain gardens look like regular flower gardens but they are more. When it rains, a rain garden fills with a few inches of water and allow the water to slowly filter into the ground rather than running off to the storm drains. Compared to a patch of lawn, a rain garden allows about 30% more water to soak into the ground! They also add beauty to neighborhoods and provide wildlife habitat.
  • Guidelines for Proper Disposal of Household Medication - Prevent unused medication form polluting our water supplies.  Here are tips for proper disposal of unused perscriptions and other medical waste.
  • Say "NO" To Plastic Bags - We bet you're already  "on board" with just how bad plastic bags are . .but wanted to share these scary facts with you so you could pass on to others who may not be.
  • And how about Plastic Bottles - How bad are they?  Get on board to reduce the number of plastic bottles in our landfills.
